Surrounding a Literature to Life Signature Performance, educators and presenters are encouraged to include an LTL Workshop or an LTL Residency (series of workshops) to enhance and deepen student connection to the themes and characters in the book.
LTL Workshops and Residencies are held before and/or after a Signature Performance, inviting Teaching Artists into the classroom to work directly with students in creating personal responses to the book and live performance. These programs use Applied and Educational Theatre techniques as the tools of exploration, focusing on the themes of the story and the social and emotional journeys of the characters, as well as enhancing the students’ connection to the book in a way that relates to their own lives.
These in-depth explorations can vary in duration, from one-day workshops to multi-session residencies. All workshops and residencies require advance planning with lead educators and LTL Teaching Artists. Duration, content, and format are tailored to the goals of the school or community, connecting cross-curricular subjects such as Theatre, ELA, Social Studies, Ethics, and more.
Throughout the process, students learn elements of theater, performance, critical thinking, and literary writing. All workshops and residencies culminate with student presentations of their own work whether as written text, monologue, short play, or poem.
Our Remote Residencies are tailored to classroom needs, and typically span several weeks in which we work closely with individual classroom teachers and their remote learning curriculum.

Our commitment to your audiences during this time:
Literature to Life (LTL) knows that incorporating the arts into our lives and into cross-curricular and social-emotional learning is more important than ever before. Throughout the days of social distancing, remote/hybrid learning, and safety precautions, we found new ways of connecting and building relationships with students and audiences. And as we move into our "new normal," educators around the country have continued to express the need for dynamic content that can be weaved seamlessly into their lesson plans, while theaters strive to keep their audiences engaged in ways that are safe and economically feasible. LTL answers the call, bringing the power of literature directly to you both live as well as through virtual or pre-recorded performances and remote workshops and residencies. Please check under each Active Title for virtual/remote availability!
