Film at Lincoln Center

Film at Lincoln Center (FLC) is a nonprofit organization that celebrates cinema as an essential art form and fosters a vibrant home for film culture to thrive. FLC presents premier film festivals, retrospectives, new releases, and restorations year-round in state-of-the-art theaters at New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. They offer audiences the opportunity to discover works from established and emerging directors from around the world with a passionate community of film lovers at marquee events including the New York Film Festival and New Directors/New Films. FLC is committed to preserving the excitement of the theatrical experience for all audiences, advancing high-quality film journalism through the publication of Film Comment, cultivating the next generation of film industry professionals through their FLC Academies, and enriching the lives of all who engage with their programs.

Freedom Reads

Freedom Reads’ mission is to bring joy, inspire hope, and help those Inside confront what prison does to the spirit. They bring beautiful, handcrafted bookcases into prisons, transforming cellblocks into Freedom Libraries. The Freedom Library is a physical intervention into the landscape of plastic and steel and loneliness that characterizes prison. In an environment where the freedom to think, to contribute to a community, and even to dream about what is possible is too often curtailed, Freedom Reads reminds those Inside that they have not been forgotten.

Girls Write Now

Girls Write Now is a nationally award-winning nonprofit, media brand, and multi-generational community. For nearly three decades, they have broken down the barriers of gender, age, race, and poverty to mentor, teach, and connect writers and leaders across disciplines and around the nation. With a focus on those historically disempowered due to their gender and gender identity, GWN harnesses the power of stories to shape culture, impact industries, and bridge worlds.

Literary Freedom Project

The Literary Freedom Project creates free, inclusive spaces for communities to connect through books, weekly discussions, and public presentations. Their programs celebrate the diverse cultures of the Bronx and New York City while building community through shared stories, dialogue, and the literary arts.

    • Collaborative Event: Mini-Performance of If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin and Community Conversation at Bronx Library Center during ‘James Baldwin at 100.

 

National Book Foundation

The National Book Foundation was founded in 1989 to administer the National Book Awards, which has been one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the country since 1950. The Foundation also produces numerous educational and public programs that help connect readers to books in new and meaningful ways. The mission of the National Book Foundation is to celebrate the best literature published in the United States, expand its audience, and ensure that books have a prominent place in our culture.

    • LTL Signature Performance serving as NBF’s “Book Up” field trip for groups of students. The performance will be held at Girls Write Now.

 

Word Up Community Bookshop

Word Up Community Bookshop/Librería Comunitaria is a multilingual, collectively operated bookshop and arts space in Washington Heights, committed to co-creating a place where residents support each other to live informed and expressive lives. Embracing cooperative practices, they champion books and storytelling in all forms to build and sustain a more just world where people can live with dignity and autonomy. Word Up strives to make their neighborhood a resource-rich site for all to grow, learn, and celebrate heritages.
